Scott Armstrong | Lead Pastor

While not originally from Atlanta, Scott spent much of his youth here before returning with his wife, Kerstin, to start City Church-Eastside.  He is a graduate of Furman University (B.S., Political Science) and Reformed Theological Seminary (Masters in Christian Thought, Masters in Divinity, Masters in Counseling).  He enjoys reading, cooking, travel, playing real football (soccer) and staying fit.  

Scott and Kerstin have been married since 2000 and are raising three beautiful girls: Karis (11), Carlie (8), and Camille (6) in the Candler Park neighborhood.  Scott is always up for a conversation about the church and community over a libation of your choice.

Mike Boland | Pastor of Spiritual Formation

Mike grew up in South Carolina in a children’s home called Thornwell. Mike then received a football scholarship from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina that enabled him to go to college. After graduating, Mike worked for Campus Outreach for the next seven years. In 2009, Mike, Jennifer and their 3 year old daughter, moved to Florida to attend seminary at RTS Orlando. During seminary he worked for a PCA church plant in Downtown Orlando and added three more children to their family. In 2013, Mike, Jennifer and their four kids; Avery (their only girl), Keller, Graham and Lincoln moved to Atlanta to join the City Church-Eastside community. As a family, the Bolands love their neighborhood (Reynoldstown) and enjoy gathering with friends and neighbors around the dinner table to swap stories. Mike enjoys playing most sports, meeting new people, and journeying with people as they investigate questions of faith. 

Justin Smith | Assistant Pastor & Operations Director


Justin is from Arlington, TX and graduated with a degree in History from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. During his time at Belmont, Justin found that his passion was for ministering to college students through Reformed University Fellowship (RUF). After graduating, Justin worked as an intern with RUF and a number of jobs including a pre-school teacher, line cook, landscaper, and worship director. In the summer of 2010 he met his wife Kathryn through RUF at the annual conference in Florida. Justin and Kathryn got married a year later and moved to Atlanta. Justin has recently earned his Masters of Divinity at Reformed Theological Seminary in Atlanta and enjoys putting his learning into action as City Church’s Assistant Pastor and Operations Director. Justin has a great love for the city and great hope that its many eclectic people would know the truth and beauty of the gospel of Jesus. Justin enjoys old hymns, new music, the Texas Rangers, and a great meal. He’s always up for drinks and conversations over anything from baseball to theology. They lead the Parkside Neighborhood Community.

Kerstin Armstrong | Director of Women's Ministry

With a M.Div. and M.A. in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary, Kerstin's passion is to train as many leaders as possible to lead as many women as possible to experience holistic transformation by engaging Scripture and storytelling in the context of spiritual formation grous. Holistic transformation is spiritual (vertical to God), personal (to self) and relational (horizontal to others). The goal is to grow as a disciple of Christ within a community where we value to the story of Scripture and the story that God has written and continues to write in our own life.

Kerstin and Scott have three girls- Karis, Carlie and Camille- and a puppy named Winston. They live in Candler Park.
